We will transfer from Marrakech to Imlil (1,780m), and then set off an a 6 hour trek out of the Imlil Valley and into the Azzadene Valley. Along the way you will pass Tizi N’Mzik at 2,450m, the refuge at Azib n’Tansoult and the Ighouliden waterfalls. Depending on progress, you will overnight in either the Azib n'Tansoult or Lipeney mountain refuge at 3,000m.
After breakfast we will start a fairly stiff climb out of the Azzadene Valley and on towards the Toubkal Refuge. Lunch will be taken with spectacular views over the Atlas Mountain Range. After lunch, we will continue over the Aguelzim Mountain pass to overnight at Toubkal Refuge (Niltner Hut) at 3,560m. We will likely be sharing a bunk room with other trekkers who will be tackling Toubkal early the next morning
Today, we will get up early for the climb to the summit of Toubkal (4,167m). We'll hopefully have wonderful views over the Atlas Range and the Sahara Desert (weather permitting). After summitting, we will start the long trek back down past the refuge following the well-worn path back to Imlil. This is a fairly long day with 8-9 hours of trekking, involving 900m of ascent and then almost 2,500m of descent back to Imlil! Of course, it's always quicker coming down a mountain.
Day 4: Imlil – Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate Dades Gorge.
At 8.30am, our private transport with driver and Guide will meet us at a Riad or hotel in Marrakech. We will then drive to the south side of morocco, crossing the High Atlas Mountain range via the magnificent Tichka pass (2260m) which is considered as the highest mountain pass in Morocco. This pass offers stunning views over the north with its Berber villages. We will stop here to allow for us to get some pictures. From here, we will drive along the Telouet valley. In times past, this road was the only route used for the former Caravans coming from the south to Marrakech.
After a short drive, we will stop for a short visit at the Pasha Glaoui’s Abandoned Kasbah. We will then drive along the Onila valley to the spectacular Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, where we will stop for lunch. Lunch here is not provided as you will be able to choose your own restaurant to eat at. The Kasbah has been a UNESCO world heritage site since 1987. Several Hollywood movies have been filmed here, including Alexander, Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven and many, many more.
We will then travel along the beautiful Valley of the Roses to the Dads Gorges where we will spend the night.
Day 5: Dades Gorge – Todra Gorge – Merzouga . 270km
After breakfast we will drive along the Dades valley, visiting Dades Gorge, Todra Gorge and other interesting sites. Lunch is not provided as you will be able to eat at a local restaurant. After lunch we will drive through many Berber Villages, such as Arfoud and Risasani Towns. There are optional stops in Arfoud to visit the big fossil factories. When we arrive at Merzouga, we will meet our caravan of Camels for the 2 hour ride into the Dunes to reach our Nomadic camp at Erg Chebbi. From here, we will admire the stunning sunset over the desert.
Day 6: Erg Chebbi – Merzouga – Alnif – Tazzarine – Agdez – Ouarzazate – Marrakech. 570km
We will rise early to appreciate the stunning sunrise before mounting our camels for the 2 hour ride back to Merzouga, where we will have breakfast and a shower.
